CSOB Bratislava marathon 2018

It has become a bit of a tradition for me to test myself in Bratislava marathon. This year it was 13th edition of the event and the 5th one I was taking part in. I was also joined by Tomek and Gosia – my Kazbek expedition friends. The route did not differ too much from last year and again the last kilometers were set in Sad Jana Krala park.

In the days leading up to the race organizers and sponsors in front of registration office presented a car covered with a list registered marathon runners. Many people had fun trying to locate their names.

I did not have any expectations going in due to lack of preparation targeted at running and next to no recovery from other training. This year I have been focusing on improving my endurance while hiking under heavy loads.

In the morning before the start weather was good for running which means cloudy with little wind and around 15 degrees C. However as the day wore on after an hour the sun came out sapping my strength. Initially my speed was surprisingly good with 44:30 for initial 10 km, but after 15 km I started to gradually slow down. Half-marathon was done in 1:36:18 Just as last year 2nd part was even slower and I completed the race in 3h:24m:31s – new personal best.

Considering circumstances I am very satisfied with my result and the fact that I was able to run all uphill sections this time.
