Georgia
A country located on the Europe and Asia border between the Black and Caspian sea. From the north it borders Russia, from the east Azerbaijan and from the south Turkey and Armenia. Most of the country is covered by mountains, especially in the north – The Caucasus Mountains with many 4 and 5 k m peaks.
Georgians are proud of their history, tradition and religion. It was the first country to officially accept Christianity in the 4th century. The language can differ depending on the region – there are different dialect or even completely different language – i.e. in Svaneti region. The easiest way to communicate is to speak Russian, English is not very popular – especially outside the capital Tbilisi.
The currency is GEL (pronounced larɪ) 1 GEL=0,4 EUR or 1,65 PLN.
It has been a few years since the military conflict in Southern Osetia in 2008 (which remains closed for tourism) and on the whole Georgia is a safe country. Police is well funded and present in tourist locations. Georgia is developing infrastructure – new roads, hotels, restaurants, ski resorts and private hostels are built. The European Union citizens do not need a visa.
Georgia is famous for cultivation of grapes and wine production as well as many early Christianity monuments.
Pristine mountains of this country and attract many trekkers and alpinists. Some of the more famous peaks are Kazbek, Ushba, Tetnuldi, Shkhara. On the other hand Georgia can boast long established seaside resorts by the Black Sea – Batumi and nearby towns.
