Kyrgyzstan
A country located in central Asia between China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It encompasses many cultures. Mountains cover 93% of the country – Pamir in the south and Tien Shan in the center and west. Pristine nature and its beauty is the biggest riches of Kyrgyzstan and attracts tourists from all over the world and earned it a nickname the Switzerland of Central Asia.
Lack of visa requirements for European Union citizens and no peak permits for 6 and 7 thousanders contributes to the popularity of this country. In recent years new hotels and roads are being built to improve infrastructure and comfort of travelling. Nowadays it is easy to find a variety of travel offers to Kyrgyzstan for trekking, heli-skiing, hunting or just general sightseeing and laid-back rest by the mountain lakes.
Bigger cities provide easy access to ATMs and exchange offices. The mobile phone network is quite widespread including mobile internet access. However specialized climbing, cycling or photographic equipment can most likely be purchased only in the capital Bishkek.
When going to Kyrgyzstan one has to be aware that English language is not popular there. Your best bet is getting some Russian basics. Local people are friendly, though they may overcharge westerners – it is best to negotiate prices.
